Hello everyone,

I must have missed this guest book - sorry for posting before introducing myself here. I would like to begin by congratulating all of you who have made this forum possible, and also for your work preserving Indonesian silat.  [top]

My name is Bramantyo Prijosusilo (42 y/o) and I study Bangau Putih which I got to knowthrough my almamater, Bengkel Teater Rendra. My occupations are, writer, artist, rice farmer, market trader, theatre maker, dalang, sworn translator / interpreter and jurnalist. I made the mistake of not specializing when I was younger and now I am a kind of Jack-of-all-trades-and-Master-of-None. My life is rather nomadic, I live in Ngawi, Yogyakarta, London, Depok, and Bogor. Right now I am harvesting rice, -organic "Menthik Wangi" to be precise, a very sweet smelling rice, if anyone is interested, please get in touch.

I post on other forums, sometimes as Kiai Carita and sometimes as Lare Angen. I am familiar with some people here because I used to actively follow the silatbogor mailing list. My special hobby on the internet is urging Western pesilat who make outrageous claims to come to forums and explain themselves. I dislike the fact that a few Westerners are manipulatively make things up about silat while claiming their innovations to be traditional here. I respect people making their own silat if they are honest about it.  [top]

Warmest salaams and deepest respect to all,
Bram.

Hello everyone,
My name is Krisno Pryosusilo and I have usually posted in MAP.
I live in Australia now, but am asli from a small village near G. Lawu in Kecamatan Widodaren (near Ngawi).

My silat is home-made in that it is the sum total of my martial and life experiences, through the military as well as whilst working in the field of security. I call it Silat Lelaku.  It is a MMA really, but only for my own personal use and I teach it to my children.

I have a grave concern when foreign people make arrogant claims that they become a sumber silat Indonesia, but their knowledge of the culture in which this silat is immersed is proven to be shallow and deficient. That is why I've joined with this effort.

Salam,
Krisno

Salam Bunga Sepasang,

Hello My Name is Simon Barnes, I have been training Perisai Diri for 24 years and teach a small class in the mountains behind the Gold Coast in Australia.

P.D has been a big part of my life.I have enjoyed playing I.P.S.I for many of my years in Silat.

I was very gratefull to be able to play I.P.S.I in PDIC 2005 and win Juara 2 Kelas F Putra and to meet Mulyono in the Final.Mulyono is a great player.

I am looking forward to reading and meeting more members of the Silat Family.

I would like to say congratulations To Pak Arya  Penida on becomming Pendekar.
Thank you for your help over the years Terima kasih Banyak.

Yogya (Merapi).

I love P.D.

Kindest regards

Simon Barnes.

Salam pencak silat!!

My name is Herman Winterberg, 30 yrs old and living in the Netherlands.
I've been training Pencak Silat for about 15 years.
I started in Emmen (northern Holland) at Minangkabau Emmen which has changed his name to Satria Muda. At that time my teacher was Nick Smith. I've left that school to join Merpati Putih at the K.B.R.I. in The Hague of which I am a member now for about 5 years. My teacher there is pak Supriyono. Although I do not train in Emmen anymore, I still have ties with them for friendship's sake.

I'm really happy to see this forum and I hope to meet many friends!

Hello Sahabats!  I too am sorry for not introducing myself earlier in this Guestbook.

My name is Michael Fishman and I am a 36 year martial arts practiconer living in the Metro Detroit area of the United States.  I've lived here most of my life but have also lived in both Arizona and in Paris, France.

My first martial arts experience was with Judo when I was child in the 1970s.  From 1985 - 1996 I studied Korean style martial arts under Grand Master Kwang Jo Choi.  Initially it was International Style Tae Kwon Do, but by the late 80s, Grand Master Choi developed his own sytle, which he called Choi Kwang Do.

In the summer of 1996, I walked into the King Dragon school of Malay arts in Farmington Hills, MI where I instantly fell in love with both Silat and Kali.  The primary art taught was Pukulan Cimande Pusaka Pencak Silat which is the Silat of Pendekar William Sanders.  I actively trained there for about a year and half before deciding to leave.  Over the next several years, On three occasions, I returned for brief periods of time.

In the fall of 2003, I rejoined Pukulan Cimande Pusaka in earnest, but this time under Guru Besar Jerry Jacobs of Port Huron, MI.  Indeed, G.B. Jerry has recently opened up a 2nd martial arts school closer to my home in the city of Hazel Park.  I'm over-joyed to once again have a place to train at on a daily basis.

Besides the above,  I was also fortunate to have briefly trained with Jin Hung Lee of the Beijing Wushu team for less than a year in 1989.  Lastly, I was a high school Wrestler.

My main purpose for joining the website is to help address many of the questions that have been raised about my teacher, Pendekar William Sanders.  Being on the inside of his organization, I can personally attest that many of the negative things being said about him are untrue.  It is my hope that I will be able to provide some clarity to the emotionally charged discussion about him and his Silat.  To that end, I'm open to any and all serious inquiries that any Sahabats have about my teacher, his Silat or me!

I'm also here to learn about Silat as it is a huge part of my life and I love it dearly.

Thanks for reading everyone!

Welcome and selamat datang to the forum Irfan! Sahabat, Irfan is a dedicated formidable silat athlete who impressed many a few years ago by fighting on with a broken foot. Yes, Kang Eric, I believe sahabat Irfan here is putranya Bang Aidinal.

What work are you doing in Indonesia and are you in Jakarta (as you mention you are studying with Ayah Zakaria)?

I think it would be beneficial for all if you would post more (in english) about Mustika Kwitang, because we know that there is the issue of there being a 'Guru Besar' of Mustika Kwitang in the USA. Has there been any gestures from USA to join 'silaturahmi' with the Kwitang kampung in Jakarta or was all that hullabaloo a few years ago in the internet for nothing?

Is there any difference between the Jakarta Mustika Kwitang and the USA Mustika Kwitang? Are there still two Guru Besar in the school?

Salam hangat,
Bram

Mas Bram, I have been in jakarta now 7 months, when are you coming out next? As for the that issue with Mustika Kwitang in the US i havn't heard anything since that post on the other forum. I was with Babe Zakaria last night, and he is doing very well, still training and healthy like the Betawi warrior that he is, alhamdulliah. From what babe Zaka has told me, it is all untrue and false claims Mustika Kwitang in the US, there is only ONE grand master for MK! hehe...im working in offshore investments now Mas, going well so far, life in Indonesia is so much better. Anyway hope you are well.

Wa'alaikum salaam, Irfan... sory for taking so long to respond to your post. I am in London at the moment, but I'm not staying long. So much to do, so little time. I don't fancy going to Jakarta, really. But insya'allah I will be back in Ngawi in March, for my harvest. I am a rice farmer now and it is a lot of work to change the methods back to natural, organic ways. Please come down when you have time. If you get to Solo or Yogya, insya'allah I can pick you up. Stay at my place for a week or so.. it is real desa.

My name is Luke aka 'orang asing'. I currently live in Melbourne, Australia. I have been a fan of pencak silat since studying bahasa indonesia at university a few years ago. Due to location and work commitments, my only involvement in this cool martial art has been via internet and tv.

I would love to learn pencak silat and would appreciate any advice on the subject. I am planning to go to Java (Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Mt Merapi and Semerang) in August or September for 3-4 weeks.

Hormat saya

Selamat Datang, Luke,

I would say that it alot to do in 3-4 weeks, you will be rushing. There is pencak silat in Melbourne though, I am sure!

Probably best to begin in the Padepokan Pencak Silat in TMII in Jakarta, and from there take teh advice of pesilat you meet there, as what would be best for your purpose would depend on what you want. There can't be much you can get from silat in 3-4 weeks except a taste.

Hormat kembali,
Bram

hi all...
good to see you in this forum...
I'm Tonny from Jawa Timur Indonesia, I had my silat training for long long time ago when I was a junior high school student, the unique one of my style was having no specific name, just only called "pencak silat", now I have been traning Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) for 4 years, I discovered that FMA is close to silat, especially in empty hand system called pangamot.

Though not as an active practitioner, as Indonesian I should love Pencak Silat, so I came here!!

best regards,
Tonny Hartcone

Not too far away from there anyway. I have been involved in the Martial Arts for almost 26 yrs. I love any and all Martial Arts. Every art has something to contribute. Allow me to extend a second welcome to you then, Mang Upil, now that you've met some of us :D

I've been told that if there is anything useful about silat, it is to learn how to navigate between what we think people should do and what they think we should have became. :w

post around and lets work our silat out. [top]

@antara

Nice. Gotta learn more for you.as for myself, I am a new comer to this. U could call me a begginer cos I don't know any silat. As far as I know pesilat/pendekar/satria (call it whatever u want) are masters of the art of self controll and can't get pissed just by someones  action.

Anyway thanks for the warm, hot and cold wellcome. Lookin forward for a relax not so tense discussion.

Salam
Upil

Hi c'mon, you know it very well that you don't need anybody's permission to move on :D

Moderators aren't here to breath on your neck... we just pull things out of the extreme back to moderate level, hence the name ::). The rest is vox populi >:D
