I would like call attention to an organization that I believe both the Indonesian and American pesilat should consider interaction with.
The organization is the Indonesian American Education Foundation under the guidance of Henny Hughes. She travels to Indonesia periodically as well as conducting fund raising here in the USA. The purpose of her efforts is to afford underprivileged Indonesian children educational opportunities. Most of thhe fundraising events have been Indonesian cultural events and Asian cultural festivals.
My small group has participated in most of their functions here in the North Texas region ( we were, unfortunately, unable to participate in their last event). We joined her efforts with hopes to connect with our local Indonesian communities and to do something worthwhile for both cultures. I would encourage pesilat in the USA to contact her organization and see how your particular groups can support her efforts. Tell her Doc sent you ...ha, ha. I know she would be interested in meeting Pencak Silat teachers in Indonesia if they feel they could support her efforts over there.
