Title: Dark Eden 'CONCEPT' Trailer
Post by: Satria on 01/11/2007 06:34
Hi all,

Here is a link to the 'Dark Eden' CONCEPT trailer, which was used to secure final $65mm funding for the REAL 'Dark Eden' movie which will begin filming in London in January 2008.

This clip was shot, put together, edited and composed in 3 days, and was made with practically no money, so it's no Hollywood masterpiece!

The proper film is scheduled for a December 2008 release date in cinemas worldwide.  I CAN promise that the real movie will be a masterpiece which brings the South-East Asian arts to the forefront of mainstream viewers!

Hi Martin,

I can't see the u-tube vid from my my dial-up village a little more than an hour from Solo, but I am sure if it secured you guys the millions then it is good. Does it have Steve doing a flying leg gunting in it? Selamat and congratulations for getting the funds.

I hope that everything goes smooth with the shooting in London. I'll drop in and see you guys as I plan to be in London next January for a few weeks. Salam hangat to Steve & Larni & all Hendon crew.

Bram

Hey D,

Yeah, the real movie will be shot both in London and Hawaii, but this is just a low budget concept showreel we did over a few days, to muster interest with investors.  The final movie will be of Hollywood quality, both in the picture quality and the action sequences.  It will really bring out the South-East Asian arts to the mainstream audiences in it's fullness.

Cheers,
Martin

Hawai? Not shooting anything in West Jawa? Did the Indo partnership fall through?

Bram.

Hi Bram,

Very difficult with Insurance to film in Indo...  near impossible in fact, so we are recreating Indonesia in Hawaii...  Indonesian crew coming over to capture the martial arts though... Man, it's gonna be something so hot, I guarantee that...

Silat in the mainstream cinemas is long overdue!  Once we get rolling, the PR machine will kick off in Indonesia also...

Sorry about the insurance...very sorry...I don't like the idea of shooting Indonesia in Hawai, I think it is because I remember a pre-War film featuring Bali, shot in Hawai, full of anthropological errors. It would be so easy to

Best of luck with your efforts, though, there is always a way around things and I hope you make a great film!

Salam to Alvin, Angel, Steve and family!

Hey Bram,

Dont worry about that.  Our Indonesian director is a stickler for accuracy, and we will be recreating Indonesia to a 'T'. The budget provisioning is ensuring this.  People wont be able to tell the difference... and more importantly, the silat will make sure this art gets it's long, overdue recognition on a global scale...

Martin

Just remember that horizons of Hawaii are very much filmed and photographed and thus recognizable.

Do you think that this film will have the impact similar to "Enter the Dragon" and Bruce Lee had on kungfu? Is it going to be the next "Ong Bak?" ...

The History Channel programme featuring silat will also bring silat on to the global stage. It seems that the times are now ripe for wider global recognition. Very exciting...

Bram

LOL... I'm sure the Director of Photography knows what he's doing....  It's in good hands.

Will this film have the impact of 'Enter the Dragon'?  Well, we live in a different world.  A more cynical world that is thrown images left, right and centre, so they have more choice...  I do know however, that the silat whown will make jaws drop, and it will definately get people talking about it.  I honestly feel that this will do for silat what 'Ong Bak' did for Muay Thai...

Martin

Hi Martin,

Is the Story/concept pure fiction or dose it relate to true life ie the story of your teacher and his relationship with his teacher etc.....is there any truth in it?

Hi D,

The film is loosely based on Steve's real life, but has been adpated and somewhat changed for film.  Illegal underground fights, working with the Triads, meeting Guru Ma.. etc.. all real life events.

Also, we exhausted all our avenues to shoot in Indonesia, but it is just impossible to get bonded (Insurance) for the crew (liability, travel, etc, etc...)  Hawaii is much more expensive also!

D, where are you from?

Cheers,
Martin

Hi Martin,

I,m from the UK.

Sounds good, look forward to watching it!

Hawaii is expensive! basically your only looking for a location which has the feel of Indonesia and obviously for insurance reasons is considered safe, at least by the insurance company anyway.

Maybe others on this forum with a better knowledge of geography then me could give you a few ideas for locations.

What about the Philippines though, never been there but I assume the geography, plant/animal life etc would be similar to Indonesia as they are fairly close?

UPDATE - We will now be shooting the film IN Indonesia, as we are keeping it as authentic as possible.  More to follow as we go deeper into pre-production.

Great News... I was worried about Hawaii ... it is so much filmed and the images are undoubtedly recognizable as Hawaii. I am really glad that you are going to Indonesia to shoot it. I am sure it will make the film more convincing. Where is it at now in terms of production are you nearly there yet?

After a long period of silence, the audience would like to know... how is the film progressing? Are you in Endonesya now?
