2. Do you know that a silat master is sometimes an NLP or a hypnosis expert as well?
3. Do you know that everybody can be pesilat without having to undergo a hard  physical trainin
g?
4. Do you know that in the philosophy of old silat styles, silat has never been meant to create a fight master?

Master Antara and Oom Eric,k there is one method in Betawi called Ngukir...Ngukir literally means sculpting.. In the old teaching of cingkrik Sinan, ngukir theoretically means practicing silat with your sub conscious mind...There is no 'drill' in mastering a move..you just need to allocate the memory of such move in a particular place in your brain...
Confused? hope not..

In Silek Kumango, there are two teaching method of silat..one is called silek tagak (Stand up silat), while the other is called siled duduak..Silek tagak is silat that most of us know...A hard physical training...whilst silek duduak is simply a conversation between the master and the disciples...Silek duduak is not a just a conservation...we call a generative dialogue...a dialogue that brings the heart and mind of both to a certain situation...This dialogue is so powerful, and the disciples can learn some silat moves just by having this kind of conversation...

There are a lot of examples...how this method works..one of which is one of Master Antara's brother in golok seliwa, Ely beeng.., who knocked out 2 armed robbers...The funny thing is, Ely spent only a little time in physical training..but he had a lot of dialogue with the master...Yet.., when things get hot, he just knows how to move with seliwa's principles...Funny but it's real

Very interesting, Uda. What exactly are the disciples doing when performing ngukir? Is it some sort of imagineering?

Again, most fascinating.
I imagine it would be similar with NLP, where dialogue is geared toward one's multi senses, emotion and perception. Or is it? I should sit and learn more...

I believe Bang Ely learned something other than Seliwa? A kanuragan style of martial art?

@antara:

1. Ngukir is a actually a meditation technique...whilst other meditation technique would ask you to bring 'yourself" a peaceful place..., ngukir is the other way around...Bring 'yourself' to a chaotic situation..a life threatening one..then wait you will see..how 'yourself' would teach you how to move...

2. Generative dialogue is not NLP...it's a dialogue between two human beings...from the same origin and headed to the same direction, eventually..
The dialogue would give hints, what sort of things lie between the origin and the final destination...

check this out: when feet are on the ground, heart and mind are connected to the existence of being, whilst breath are repatriated to its real owner, what would you feel? You would feel nothing..no thoughts, No senses, No will at all...except the will that follows the commitment with the sense....

3. No comment...but a maybe a little...ely said it was seliwa who came out of his moves...

Do you know that the other terms of silat is pencak?
we the Eastern Java practitioner have more familier with terms "pencak" or combination of both as "pencak silat".
terms silat itself without pencak, for us is more likes Malayo martial arts.

Over here we also have a famous martial arts novelist, called Ko Ping Ho, he also used terms "silat" for describing the act of ancient martial arts from China mainland.

So many choices bro...better you make study from topics "aliran pencak silat" or "video silat". Throw question or topics to get more information on this forum.

And you can choose which is suitable with your personal requirement. Many lineage with various masters, you only need your "inner decision".
Good luck, with best wishes ...
